HOT AUGUST METAL: A Deathphonic Black Metal Concert To Be Held This Summer
February 1, 2007On August 25, 2007, Tacoma Scene Media will launch Hot August Metal, a deathphonic black metal concert and a manifestation of rhythmic symphonic death metal magnificence.
To date, two bands have signed on to perform… metal mystics WOLVEN ANCESTRY from Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, one of Canada's leading black metal bands, and CEREMONIAL CASTINGS from Battle Ground, Washington, a long standing favorite of the Pacific Northwest death metal community.
The organizer and promoter, Terry Kuehn of Tacoma Scene Media, has long been an admirer of ProgPower USA and its long-standing euphoric presentations featuring prog metal artists for the prog metal community. What is being planned for and what he would like to see being accomplished, is a similar-type event happening in the Pacific Northwest whereby symph-based black and death metal bands are showcased.
Furthering his comments as to what will try to be captured and accomplished with Hot August Metal, Kuehn indicated that black and death metal, per se, are often totally misunderstood and are, therefore, not really being able to be appreciated as they should be. When asked to explain that, Kuehn replied, "Hey, check out the song lyrics of some of these bands. Check out WOLVEN ANCESTRY lyrics and CEREMONIAL CASTINGS lyrics. See for yourself. These bands are into nature and the universe and animals of the planet and historical events and elements pertaining to common man. And listen to the music coming from these guys. This stuff is mesmerizing. And musicianship? Hey, this stuff takes years to perfect. That's true dedication that deserves to be recognized."
Organizing and assisting with music and community events is nothing new to Kuehn and to Tacoma Scene Media. Primarily local in nature, Kuehn has been involved within the Tacoma, Washington music and entertainment community since 2000. He also draws on years of experience in the construction trades with a background in construction management to facilitate accomplishing agendas.
A decision as to where Hot August Metal will take place in the Seattle/Tacoma area has yet to be determined, but Kuehn figures that's the least of his worries. "That'll be determined when it needs to be decided upon," he says.
Anticipating and envisioning something to behold, Kuehn is already looking forward to 2008. Now that's involvement, with a capital "I."
